Food Waste |
GOAL: learn more about the technical rules of rhythmic gymnastics from a coach's perspective rather than that of a gymnast. MY REASON: My reasoning for tackling this challenge is strictly for my future if I decide to pursue rhythmic gymnastics coaching as a career. For right now my credentials are enough for my status as Assistant Coach. I want to educate myself now about coaching as a career because it will help me dictate what I want in my future career-wise. EXPECTED OUTCOME: Through more research on the USA Gymnastics(UASAG) website I hope to learn more about getting my coach's license, learn more about how judge's judge, and what makes a rhythmic coach qualified on a national level, what it takes from a business perspective, the liabilities of coaching, and the fundamental elements of a winning routine. TAKEAWAY: Looking at this challenge after two weeks of research, I'm a bit overwhelmed. I'm very lucky in that the USAG website has a multitude of resources for aspiring coaches/gymnasts/judges/dance moms? to use at their own disposal. They actually have a "USA Gymnastics University" After taking a closer look into this profession, I've learned a lot. I found a multitude of resources like: - handbook to starting a rhythmic program -routine regulations/generalities -online "safesport" safety courses -a whistleblower policy, lol -information about different opportunities for existing rhythmic programs Now knowing about all the information available to me, I can decide what I want to learn about first that will help me in my existing status as a coach. |
GOAL: become more conscious of how much food waste I produce and how find areas I can improve.
MY REASON: I was inspired by the documentary "Just Eat It" which was about a couple who lived off food "waste" for 6 months. I was shocked at the amount of food we consumers waste and wanted to see what I could do to contribute to the problem less. EXPECTED OUTCOME: Through logging my meals and waste, I expected to consciously think about wasting less food and/or find new ways to adapt to a lifestyle all about wasting less food. FOOD I CONSISTENTLY WASTED: veggies at lunch(by the end of the 2 weeks, my lunch table came up with a system of who would eat what veggies, which helped waste less food as a group. POTATOES: I found myself getting a potato most days and not eating it just so I could get the meal deal. Most days I would be too full to even unwrap the aluminum. (by the end of the 2 weeks, I found entrees I would actually eat and not waste like green beans, carrots, and corn((yes very vegan I know)) PEARS: Apparently I really like pears, but I have a tendency to buy 3 at a time and eat them way too sparingly. I forget I have the pear and it goes bad( by the end of the 2 weeks I have an almost bad pear, but I'm going to salvage the gud parts!) PASTA: No. not all pasta tastes the same. I realize this thought contributes to a lot of wasted pasta. I am guilty of this mindset. Not these 2 weeks though! I made a goal to finish an already opened box of pasta just to prove to myself, all pasta=good pasta:) TAKEAWAY: After forcing myself to think about how much food I throw away after every meal, I have learned 3 things about myself. My actions can impact others actions, I don't eat as much asparagus as I think I do, and it's my responsibility as a member of society to do my part in wasting less. I'm going to continue trying to create less food waste and hopefully expand to other consumer products. |
